Warning Signs
Pay attention to the following early and mid-term signs of mold damage and waterproofing failure. Early detection of moisture and water damage can reduce the cost of waterproofing or mold remediation services performed later.
- Peeling paint on walls
- Moldy smell in basement
- Condensation or moisture on walls or windows
- Sump pump or waterproofing system has stagnant water
- Rust and rotting (pipes, machinery, rafters, furniture legs, paneling, etc)
- Mold, mildew or fungus (discoloration and growth on paneling, insulation, joists, carpet etc.)
- Stains or spots on carpet or drywall
- Failed or constantly running sump pump
- Wall moisture, water pooling or leaking, flooding
- Interior waterproofing system not draining or collecting water
- Exterior water management or waterproofing not functioning
- Settlement cracks on walls or floors
- Insects and other critters
