Common Leaks
Waterproofing is always addressed before remodeling. The most common mold sources and leaks in waterproofing a basement are the face of the wall and the floor/wall joint (this is called the cove joint and is a common leak area found in most foundations).
Below are more leak zones in waterproofing basement walls and floors. Notice water leaking from a poorly-installed sump pump and a significant crack in the basement floor. Sump pumps in Northern Virginia are often installed hastily. Others are meant to provide protection only during a new home’s warranty period. Rarely are all these leaks accounted for before waterproofing and remodeling a basement.
